Transformative Dialogues is a forum for conversations intended to foster the improvement of adult teaching and learning. TD facilitates the multi-disciplinary exchange of ideas, actions, and results of innovative and professional practice in the scholarship of teaching and learning. These conversations are intended to span a wide range of reflections on the processes of teaching and learning ranging from the scholarly to scholarship. Reflections and understandings shared are focused on improving student and faculty learning, and critical thought processes in their current and future life long learning. We understand that scholarship may play out differently in different disciplines, but the basic principles should be consistent (Boyer, 1992).
Our journal adopts the principle that strategies, techniques and methods of teaching and learning transcend the boundaries of specific subject fields. We welcome relevant contributions from diverse settings such as academia, vocational training, continuing professional development, workplace learning, selected commercial exemplars, and social networking via communications technologies.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference at Eastern Michigan University
SOTL Academy 2009: Taking a Closer Look Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI http://www.emich.edu/sotlacademy Call for Proposals Due Date: December 1, 2008 Conference Dates: May 18-19, 2009 The SOTL Academy 2009 invites proposals for presentations of work in the area of the scholarship of teaching and learning. This conference seeks to bring together all members of the academy engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL). Applications are encouraged from experts and novices in this field, at all career stages. This national conference will provide a forum for presenting new SOTL work, for sharing reflections on SOTL and its role within the academy, and networking with others engaged in this enterprise. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning seeks to restore teaching to its proper place of importance in the academy by building a scholarship around teaching and learning. The goal is to encourage faculty to use their own classrooms (or programs) as sites for research to rigorously explore student learning, and then to go public (at conferences such as this one, and in web- and print-based publications) in order to enable others to build on the work they are doing. Specific tracks/strands will focus on the following themes, among others: •Sharing SOTL research: methodologies, works in progress, emergent findings •Shaping the liberal arts curriculum through the scholarship of teaching and learning •Negotiating the role of SOTL in academic careers, including for graduate students and future faculty "Exploring the use of various course delivery formats using classroom research." •Building and sharing theories of student learning •Creating models for building campus leadership and/or collaboration in SOTL The list above is intended to be illustrative but not in any way to be limiting. We are interested in a wide range of proposals. If you have questions regarding a proposal, please contact the conference directors. Session Formats •Panel Discussion 60-90 minute presentation by a panel of 3-5 colleagues on a topic of general interest. •Workshop 45-60 minute interactive presentation. •Individual Paper 15-20 minute presentations that will be grouped with other presenters for discussion. •Round Table 30 minute, informal, small group discussions. Ideal forum for presenting works in progress. •Poster Session For more information or to submit a proposal, please go to http://www.emich.edu/sotlacademy
